A Natural Setting for Retreats
Hokyoji is such a lovely spot for quiet retreats, in my case a meditation retreat. The food is tasty and well balanced and staff is friendly and responsive while not intrusive. The accommodations are simple, comfortable and functional. Perhaps the highest recommendation stems from the landscape and physical setting in the driftless area of Minnesota, where Iowa and Minnesota meet the Mississippi River. It is a great area to explore by car or bike.

Couldn't be happier with Hokyoji
I've been to Hokyoji twice now, once as a leader of a retreat and once as a participant. The staff is genuinely kind and responsive. They cook wonderful food and plenty of it! The facilities are also top notch. The dormitory is clean and comfortable with brand new accomodations. The conference center is also a great meeting space that is full of light and lounging areas. Lastly, the grounds and surrounding wilderness are fabulous. The quiet hiking trails and scenic views really make Hokyoji a Minnesotan gem. I already have two more retreats set up at the center and look forward to many more!

Great Experience: Friendly Staff, Beautiful Nature
I have hosted two retreats at Hokyoji now, and each time it has been a great experience for myself as a facilitator and our guests. You get to know the staff and can feel their care and attention to the experience of their guests. The accommodations are top notch - brand new facilities. And a note about the grounds -- I've hosted retreats in many places, and the nature and serenity at Hokyoji is truly one of the best I've experienced. It is beautifully quiet and peaceful, which was a perfect complement to our programming. I highly recommend working with Hokyoji and their staff for a retreat

Location

2649 County Rd 5, Iowa, Minnesota 55931, United States
Hokyoji lies on the corners of Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin, thirty miles from LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Although our mailing address is Eitzen, Minnesota, the closest town is actually New Albin, Iowa. We are in the center of The Driftless Zone, a geological area that, due to a lack of ice in the last ice age, is characterized by steep hills and forested ridges.
