Satyananda Yoga Mangrove is the oldest and largest residential yoga centre in the Southern Hemisphere. Mangrove was established in 1973 as the Australian headquarters for Satyananda Yoga. In 1975 Mangrove Mountain Retreat was inaugurated by Swami Satyananda Saraswati, founder of Bihar School of yoga, Munger, India.
Mangrove Retreat is surrounded by lush forest, a salt water creek for swimming and cavescapes with carvings that preserve the history and beauty of the Darkinjung people (the indigenous custodians of this land).
Residents at Mangrove are also accredited teachers of Satyananda Yoga.
This system adapted for the modern yogi is practiced all over the world. Classes offer a systematic approach to yoga not just on the mat. Practices include daily Asana, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra and Meditation classes; Karma yoga; Bhakti yoga; Sanskrit chanting; Karma yoga (Seva); Creative projects; gardening and ecology. Evening programs include Kirtan, Satsang, or Meditation. Personal retreat stays offer the opportunity for self directed exploration of individual persuits/studies.
All meals are vegetarian (organic and local produce when avail with vegan options).
