VEDANTA SOCIETY : OLEMA RETREAT
In a place helpful to the mind and pleasing to the eyes, in a hidden retreat, let the aspirant cultivate spirituality. - Svetasvatara Upanisad
The Society maintains a retreat in west Marin County, about an hour's drive from San Francisco in the village of Olema, where spiritual seekers of all faiths may meditate and study away from the disturbances of urban life.
Occupying over 2000 acres of forests and meadows on the PointReyes Peninsula, the Retreat was established in 1946 and hasbeen the home of a small monastic community since then. In the1970's facilities were made available for outside retreatants.
The separate Women's Retreat House and Men's Retreat House each offer a meditation room, library, kitchen and accomodations to individuals (and occasionally groups) wishing to stay for a few days of secluded spiritual practice. Daytime visitors are welcome between the hours of 10 AM and 6 PM and may use the meditation room and library on the first floor of the Men's Retreat House.
Please note that overnight stays require an interview with the Swami in Charge at the Vedanta Society in San Francisco. Please contact the Society's office in San Francisco for more information and special events.

| Sumati | 10/18/2008 | | This space is a truly amazing gift. The women's house is a wonderful ranch style building with individual rooms and private baths for each quest. There is a large mediation room that can be used for personal yoga if not in use for meditation. The grounds are large and wonderful- deer are often seen. The kitchen is shared and easy to find what you need. The work exchange that they request is just a few hours of simple work and is easy, pleasant even, to fold into one's time there. |
